Meet the Trainer: Jamie Miller

{The Basics}

Name: Jamie Miller

Age: 29

Family: Husband (Evan) and Baby Girl on the way

Profession: Yoga Instructor

How long have you been a part of the LiveFit team? Since the first summer the studio opened, I think it’s almost been 3 years now!!

What classes do you teach? Power Yoga

{Your Story}

What inspired you to start a career in fitness? I have been practicing yoga on and off since I was
in High School. In my early 20’s I got reconnected to my practice through a strong sweaty style called Power Yoga. Through that practice I learned so much about my body and myself and gained so much strength. I decided to go through teacher training, and from there really just fell in love with teaching this style of yoga.

What do you love about your job? The people. Being able to connect with people and offer them something that can make their day just a little bit better makes me so happy. I also get so inspired when I can see changes in my students after they have committed to their practice, whether it is in their spirit or in their physical abilities.

What is your favorite workout to do on your own?  I must always have my personal yoga practice,
but I also really enjoy strength training and cycling.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I love to travel, but I’m also a big homebody, and enjoy both relaxing at home and working hard to beautify our space.

{ Help us!}

What are 3 things people may not know about you?

1.) I’m a journalism major and have a former, and hopefully future, career as a writer.

2.) Halloween and Valentines Day are two of my favorite holidays… give me all the candy!!!

3.) I have run 2 full marathons and countless half marathons. I call myself a retired runner, but maybe one day I’ll lace up the sneakers again.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is on a journey to lose weight, but feeling discouraged?  Focus on those small moments of inspiration instead of feeling guilty for not being “perfect” in your healthy lifestyle; the times when you feel energized after a sweaty workout or enjoy a delicious healthy meal that you made for yourself. Keep going back to those little fulfilling victories, that is where you will find progress!

Anything else you would like to share?
I would love to invite every LiveFitter to come try a yoga class! You DO NOT have to be flexible or have a certain body type to start a yoga practice. The beautiful thing about yoga is that we all have something different we need to learn from the time we spend on our mat, so everyone’s yoga practice is going to look and feel different. Embrace the frustration and the challenge of moving your body in an unfamiliar way, and keep picking yourself up when you fall down. Also we take a nap at the end of every class ☺!
