Profession: 5th grade teacher
How long have you been on this weight loss journey? I began my journey in late November 2016.
Weight Loss/Inches: 35 pounds
What was your “low point”? Honestly, looking back there were many low points. At the time I began this journey, I didn’t really see all the low points. I would always find a spot in the back for pictures. I would make excuses for social events. In the back of my mind, I knew the real reason, but never would admit this to myself. I was overweight and embarrassed. I simply did not feel my self-worth. One particular low point was a picture that I took with my co-workers. I was floored that I had let myself get to a point that even I didn’t recognize myself.
How did you get started? I remember this changing story like it was yesterday. I was lying on the couch, and a co-worker and friend called. I was exhausted and tired after a long day at school. I answered the phone. Ashton Guard literally snowballed this journey for me. She recently had finished a LiveFit challenge and was struggling maintaining her weight loss. That afternoon she reached out to her challenge coach, Emily Wilson. After a long conversation, Emily graciously agreed to help get Ashton back on track with her diet. There was one stipulation – Ashton had to get a friend to hold her accountable. That friend was I. After listening to Ashton explain her struggles, I reluctantly agreed to try LiveFit and work with Emily. I met Ashton at Kroger that weekend with a list of items that Emily had given us to purchase. I still was not fully committed at this point, but I was willing to try. So began a huge change in my eating habits, a commitment to working out 3 days a week, and many days of complaining about starving! My body wasn’t starving; my habits were! Without these two ladies, I never thought I could achieve so much. For twelve weeks straight, the three of us worked together. I owe them so much!
What is your workout routine and eating plan? I do have an eating routine that has become the norm. I rely heavily on the InBody assessment to plan my calorie intake. I tend to stick to lean meats and fresh veggies. I’m not an elaborate eater, so I stick to simple and easy. I use My Fitness Pal to log and track all my meals and snacks. The most important aspect to eating is weekly meal prepping. I prep all my snack, lunch, and dinner meals Sunday night for the week. My workout routine is simple – 3 times a week at LiveFit. My favorite classes are HIIT and Pure Power Total Body. I am a busy mom just like everyone else. If I have extra time while waiting for my son’s baseball game to begin, I will walk the complex.
What are your top 3 favorite resources that helped you along the way?
I highly recommend signing up for Emily Wilson’s personal coaching. It was my game changer! Weekly meal prepping is a must. The LiveFit instructors! They are an awesome resource. I have never met a group of people more willing to help.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is sitting on the sidelines and waiting? Find a friend to hold you accountable. It is so much easier if you can share struggles and successes with someone who has been or is where you are right now. Also, make the InBody assessment a part of your journey. I’m not a fan of scales. The InBody is instrumental in proper measurement assessments.
