Name: Bonney Haynes
Tell us a little bit about your story. The Art of Losing Yourself” should be the title of my story these past couple of years. I know I am not alone, because as I speak with more and more parents this seems to be a common epidemic. Between spouses, children and career, who has time for food prep and exercise? This past May I knew it was “My Time” or as I lovingly called it the “Summer of Bonney”. Raising three boys, ages, 5, 12, and 16, and being a full-time teacher has me so busy that I didn’t know where to even begin taking back ME. I love every aspect of my life and seem to thrive off the busy, but somewhere on this journey I woke up heavier than I have been in a long time, so tired, and seem to have lost a part of myself. Let’s be honest, though. It is not like I woke and all of a sudden I was overweight and clothes did not fit. I consciously ignored these signs and chose clothes that I thought could hide it. I had always been active. I played softball in grade school, basketball in middle and high school, crew in college and was a long distance runner after child number two. That part of me was shelved and at the beginning of this past summer I was determined to get to work on myself. After a family meeting to be sure everyone was on board and choosing Michelle from LiveFit’s website (she looked like she would be fun to work out with), I was ready to rock and roll. The first session with Michelle was both humbling and empowering. Which translates to, it kicked my butt but I wanted to come back for more. I was sore in muscles I forgot were there. I feel stronger with every single session.
What is your routine? I work with Michelle two days a week and started the women’s running program with the Memphis Runner’s Club, running 2-3 days a week. My energy levels have increased through the roof and my motivation is stronger than ever. The “Summer of Bonney” is now the “Year of Bonney”. I am charging forward with goals, inches and weight loss. I have learned it wasn’t that I did not have time, I just had excuses. I have to be creative with time and flexible each week. As we all know, plans continuously change especially if one is overseeing a house full of other people and I have to be flexible or the card house will come crashing down. It is a challenge that I welcome each week because I am worth it.!
Tell us more about the goals you have achieved by working with Michelle. My first session with Michelle was on May 3rd of this year. As of August 22nd, I have lost a total of 19 lbs. and 8.75 inches. I sometimes feel it should be more, that I am putting all this work in and I should be shedding weight and inches faster. I have to remind myself slow and steady.
What would you say your biggest obstacle is? The biggest obstacle I face is remembering that I am important enough to carve out time for myself, staying on top of my food prep and let’s be honest…pizza and Mexican food. My mom, sister and Michelle check on me regularly and help keep me accountable. Knowing someone is paying attention and I have to answer and justify my actions, helps me stay on track.
What are you most proud of? I am so proud of how far I have come and the hard work I have put into this journey. I held parent night at my school last week and I kept remembering how much I struggled the year prior to find something to wear. While being confident in my job, I was not confident in my own skin. This time around, I felt confident; loved my outfit and am looked forward to standing in front of my parents to talk of the year to come.
Is there anything else you want to share about your experience training with Michelle? I could not be more thankful for Michelle, who prepares amazing workouts and encourages me every week. She is my rock and I appreciate how she has taken the time to get to know me and my goals. She knows when to push and challenge me and when to just cheer. She knows my “dizzy face” and when to crank up the jams. I am thankful that no two workouts are the same and I am just the right amount of sore on day two and the right amount of scared on my way to a session because I know I am about to get out of my comfort zone. I am addicted to these because I know am changing inside and out. I thank her, wholeheartedly for this, and could not be more appreciative for the stars aligning in the way they have.
